AMMDrive™ Power Systems
Our ammonia-to-electrical power technology is comprised of a reactor and a hydrogen-to-power conversion system.
Zero-carbon power at the point of use
Ammonia is fed into a reactor to undergo reforming or “cracking”. In the reactor, our high-efficiency catalyst cracks the ammonia to achieve a near-complete conversion to hydrogen and nitrogen at the lowest reactor temperatures achieved in commercial systems.
The resulting hydrogen and nitrogen gases flow through our purification module to remove traces of ammonia where applicable. The nitrogen and hydrogen are then fed into a hydrogen-to-power system, either an integrated fuel cell or hydrogen engine, wherein the hydrogen is converted to electricity; the nitrogen is released back into the atmosphere.
The result is reliable, zero carbon power.
Power configurations for different needs
Our modular systems can be configured for a range of applications, including stationary power generation, data centers, maritime, and heavy industry.
Fuel Cell Arrangement
Our fully integrated power system delivers carbon-free ammonia power for hard-to-abate industries. In this configuration, ammonia is fed into our reactor and cracked into nitrogen and hydrogen. The nitrogen and hydrogen are then directly introduced into a fuel cell where a chemical reaction takes place converting the hydrogen into electricity. The byproduct water is discharged from the system and the nitrogen is released into the atmosphere.
Genset Arrangement
Amogy integrates our best-in-class reactor with commercially available hydrogen engines, providing customers a fully integrated, carbon-free solution. In this arrangement, the reformate stream of hydrogen, nitrogen, and minimum uncracked ammonia produced through our reactor module are introduced into the H2 Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) where the hydrogen and trace ammonia are combusted to generate electricity; the nitrogen exits through the exhaust stream.
Benefits
-
Modular and scalable
Our AMMDrive Power Systems are modular: multiple units can be combined to meet the requirements of your applications. They are built for use in baseload and load-following applications, and can handle challenging ambient conditions.
-
Long-term power flexibility
Choosing ammonia-to-power can help customers meet growing power needs with a modular, fuel-flexible platform designed for long-term resilience and lower-carbon fuel pathways.
-
Efficient power conversion
Our systems efficiently convert ammonia into electricity with zero carbon emissions at the point of use.
-
Zero compromise on safety
We work with classification societies, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), regional and international regulatory bodies, and integrators to ensure technical, safety, environmental, and emissions-related requirements are met in full.
